Welcome to my very first contest!
What? Yes!
Today you can enter to win a copy of My Very Good, Very Bad Cat. It’s got my story in it!
Now I know that you might have found me rather quiet here of late.
Turns out, due to a technical Just TypiKel glitch none of my email subscribers have been getting my posts since mid-December. You won’t be aware that my story – “Bootsie’s Pick-Me-Up” is one of the 101 stories included in this Chicken Soup for the Soul My Very Good, Very Bad Cat.
The book is a delight, for cat and non cat lovers. As with all Chicken Soup for the Soul books, some of the stories will make you laugh, others will make you cry. All will make you feel.
Is Bootsie’s Pick-Me-Up
A True Cat Story? Yes.
About My Own Cat? No.
I’ve never had a cat. Ever. However, my boss certainly did and the antics I went through trying to get her cat home from the vet were … well you’ll just have to read it and find out …
Did you click on a pop-up to get here? You’re entered!
If not simply leave me a note in the comments. You’re entered!
I’m so excited for you! Contest ends March 17th. A very special day for so many reasons.
I’ll announce the winner on St. Patrick’s Day – March 17th! Best of luck!
You might also want to catch up on some Just TypiKels that didn’t find their way into your inbox.
My podcast on Inside Voice in which I read the story about that time my son revealed the family secrets at preschool. How old did he think I was?
Or perhaps the latest update on Francine, my 93 year-old mom. Her thoughts on colour.

Since December?!!? ouch.
But YAY for being in Chicken Soup!!! I can’t wait to read your essay in it, Kelly! I can *only imagine* the story you shared… I’m guessing it’s just TYPIKEL as always. LOL
Congrats, my friend. I hope I win a copy!!
I know, right? I should have noticed but it was a busy time and I just wasn’t paying attention. Ah well. Fresh start. Grinning over the *only imagine* reference, Chris. It is rather Just typiKel if I do say so myself … Fingers crossed you win!
Great news: Chicken Soup is wonderful and has helped pick up so many people (me very much included) in times of need. And my wife and I have had a slew of cats since before our marriage of 39 years and all the way through…..so I’m so glad for you.
Looking forward to all your writing
Love and rockets,
Daniel
39 years of marriage? Congratulations! That’s wonderful. And congrats on the slew of cats, too. Thank you so very much for popping in and leaving a message. I’ve got your name entered. Best of luck!
Ooh I would love this! My cat eats Chicken Soup for the Soul brand cat food. Yep, that’s a thing.
Cats forever.
Oh wow, how wonderful! Love that your cat eats the Chicken Soup brand. I see that advertised and I’ve often wondered about it. Thanks so much for popping in, entering and leaving a comment. Your name’s in. Best of luck!
Wondered why you were so quiet. I thought maybe it was because you were working on other projects. Big congrats for being published in the Chicken Soup series. I always like them
Thanks so much, Lynda. I can’t believe I went a whole two months before noticing. Just TyiKel though. And yes – I LOVE the Chicken Soup series, too. Of course. We are Guiding sisters after all …
Good to see you in my ‘inbox’ again! Really , you do make me chuckle! I one had a naughty kitten Henry who used to dig up my neighbour’s freshly planted summer flower display – my neighbour hated cats and I’m certain Henry sensed this!
Thanks so much Helen. I can’t believe it took me so long to notice. Ah well. Fresh start. Love that Henry used to do that. Too funny. I bet he sensed that your neighbour wasn’t fond of cats. My dog once dug up all my freshly planted sweet peas to get at the bonemeal underneath … but he only did it the one time!
Wow! You’re turning into quite the well-published author. Congratulations.
Thank you so much, Kathy. It’s not all smooth sailing here though. Had a rejection this week that was very disappointing and I’m choosing to look at it as “a chance to rise above!”
You have a POP UP?! Amazeballs!
I entered the good old fashioned way. Here.
Scooter sends her love. She’s a cat and loves cats.
Thanks for entering, Katy! Best of luck. And yes POP UPS! Love that you commented. Learned about them in the lead up to the blogging conference. Early days and I’m not sure what I’m doing but heck, we’ll see how they go! Jumbo hug to Scooter. Loved your Instagram pic this morning!
Congrats on the “author” status, Kelly! I’m sure your story is hysterical. Glad you’re technical problems have been resolved too. looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you, Nanette. It’s a very Just TypiKel story that took place over 30 years ago now. Reminds me that I’ve been quirky for ever.
Wow – Just heard your podcast (inside voice) was fantastic – you rocked – Go Girl!!!! You can make us roll with laugher, on one hand, and say I am glad it was Kel, on the other! I can’t wait to see MORE – congratulations. You are so modest but you are making it happen!!
Thanks so very much for listening to the podcast, Meems! Above and beyond. And thank you for your ever so encouraging words. Had a rejection this week that was rather devastating however as Chelsea said “Perhaps it’s the universe leaving that date open for a better and bigger adventure for you!” Love that.
Hello dear friend… love this pic of your fur baby. The expression on his face is priceless. I hate when technology doesn’t work. Such a pain. Did you ever get it figured out? Anyway, thanks for the note on my hair. No pics – just big hats. I am on my way over to listen to your podcast. I miss that sweet voice and sense of humor so I’ll have to get my fix thru the podcast. Hope you’re having a great weekend!!!
Having a great weekend, thank you! And surely you can send a photo via text. Just between you and me. And Mo?
Good for you!!! How exciting! We’re all allergic to cats around here, but looks like a great anthology. I’ve always loved stopping by here for a good dose of quirkiness:)
Hi! Thank you so much for popping by and leaving a comment. You’re in good company. My brother, sister-in-law and nephew are allergic to cats as well. God bless you.
OOOH congratulations! I’m so exited for you! I’ve never had a cat either (I can’t breathe around them, my allergies to them are awful and my son of course wants an orange cat more than anything). Glad you got email notifications fixed! Yikes!
It’s been a special week, Kristi, learning that no email signup person has been reading my delights. Ha! Fresh start, right? And my brother’s family is allergic to cats too. I’m sorry. Won’t say that maybe you could get an orange cat and pump up the meds. Won’t work. Hopefully T will meet up with a family that not only has an orange feline but is open to jumbo hugs.
I’m leaving a note in the comments. Congrats for your entry in the book!
Thank you, Kenya. Means the world to me. Truly.
I’m so, so happy for all of your success. May I please come along on your book tour when you publish your next book? I could be in charge of your mum’s fabulous collection of shoes. And I will bring wine!
Oh my word, Mo. Your timing could not be better. Got a rejection this week that knocked me for a loop and to read your positive words? Well I’m feeling a whole lot better. Thank you. Careful what you promise, though. I’ll hold ya to it!
You can count on it!!
I have to win that one! I’m married to Patrick McDaniel born on St. Patrck’s Day only he can’t hold his whiskey or anything else for that matter haha! I can’t believe I haven’t been getting your posts. You had said you were taking time off to write that book and then I had some issues and am just returning. I lost my brother a couple of days before Christmas. Oh well, we’re back together now my friend haha!
Ooh, Rena! I am so sorry to learn about your brother. Sending you a jumbo hug.
My late husband was born on St. Patrick’s Day! John McKenzie. He could hold his whiskey rather well but preferred rum.
Lovely to be back together, Rena. Off to catch up with you.
I bought the book, and read your essay. So good. And I love the picture of your dog – so adorable!
Lana, above and beyond of you to buy the book. Thank you so very much. I remember that you saw it on sale but I had NO idea you actually bought it. Thank you.
Just typikel that you would be in a cat book, writing a story about a cat, and not actually own a cat.
You’re awesome, Kelly.
Oh, Dana, thank you. It really is just typiKel, is it not?
Congrats Kelly – how fun! And how perfect you have a Just Typikel story about a not-your cat.
Yay! I might win your book. And your dog responses are priceless. I think he adds to your humor in a way that we all adore. Keep showing him. I never tire. And I was wondering about your blog. Glad to know I’ll have it again, although I see it here too. Thank you for the giveaway!
Aw thank you so very much, Kimberly. Poppy is tickled pink at the concept that you’ll never tire of her. I’m pulling and announcing the winner tomorrow so am wishing you the very best of luck! It’s a great book.
Sounds intriguing … I look forward to reading more 🙂
Thank you, Kama. It’s a good book. The kind that you can put down and pick up a few weeks later and not be confused about where you stopped. The stories are real which makes it even better.
Hi Kelly! I can’t believe it has taken me so long to leave a comment here! I am so thrilled for you having a cat story published in Chicken Soup – but not a bit surprised! You are a master story-teller! I’ve loved all the photos of your marvelously expressive dog showing disdain for your choice of topic! She should get some of the “royalties” from the book for her modeling services.
No worries, Susan. Thank you for popping back to leave a comment. And thank you for your kind words about Poppy. Her head is going to swell. Grinning here, hugely, about the concept of her getting some royalties, too from her modelling efforts. I’ll give her an extra scoop at dinner …
Loved this story Kelly and so happy that you were chosen for the book ! Huge congratulations to you !
Thank you so very much, Jane. I do appreciate your never ending support. Truly means the world to me.
Congratulations on the book! That is great news! Sorry I was late! Good luck with the book!
Thanks so very much, Amy. Are you a cat person? I am almost finished working my way through the book and realize it is a worthy read for both cat and non cat lovers alike. It’s really good.
I love all animals. My favorite these days is the sloth. They are so cool! We used to have a dog, but we don’t have any animals right now. Good luck with the book!
Chicken Soup for the Soul is still a thing? Though I suppose by the time it gets down to cat-themed books the series is ready for its own shelf.
CONGRATS!!! how fun….
Thanks so very much, Elda.
