How Wonderful Things Can Happen When You Least Expect It

Happy Momday Motivations Day! Today’s post is about how wonderful things can happen when you least expect it. But first a little background. Last week I wrote about how my niece Chelsea, a Parsons School of Design grad, is an entrepreneur extraordinaire. With her Los Angeles company Jubilee Jones she’s bringing back the dress clip, the brilliant 1920’s jewelry concept that presents as a sparkly brooch and poof! morphs into two identical pinless clips that’ll painlessly gussy up your hair, shoes, dresses … etc without poking a hole into your head or harming your clothing!

The dress clip and Chelsea were destined to work together. Seriously. This girl has always been fond of adornment.

Yes, the above is pictorial proof that Chelsea started with looped plastic bread clips and then moved to a variety of luggage tags. She’d never comment on them but would just turn up with them dangling from her ears.

And now today she’s created the stunningly beautiful Jubilee Jones dress clips.

So, on to the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop that I attended a few weeks back in Dayton, Ohio. I was there from Wednesday to Sunday and wanted to travel carefree with only carry-on luggage. Rather than pack several different cardis, I packed only my black one and changed up the look by swapping out different Jubilee Jones dress clips.

Here is the proof! Note the JJ number that’s peeking out under my right hand as I listen intently (!) at one of the sessions …

And again at dinner where I’m clearing laughing out loud …

And then at the Laugh Out Loud book signing with my fellow contributors Lisa Marlin  and Yvonne Ransel where I sported a brooch from JJ’s yet-to-be released line … (the perks of being Auntie) …

At one of the dinners, a fellow Ermite Amy Hartel Sherman who happens to have a wonderful story in Laugh Out Loud about her relationship with tattoos, hailed me over to ask about my brooch. I’d met her just briefly when I arrived at the hotel and had followed her hilarious comments in the private Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop Facebook group but this was the first time we’d seriously nattered. After a mutual swoon over the dress clips she then told me about a great book gift idea (sshhh don’t tell Chels as I’m thinking of getting it as a gift for her upcoming birthday) and we left it at that.

How Wonderful Things Can Happen When You Least Expect It

Then this happened as a result of last week’s Just TypiKel Momday Motivations.

This is Amy Hartl Sherman. Isn’t she stunning? She’s modeling her newly acquired Jubilee Jones ‘Bette Classic Double Clip brooch that she ordered through my post! I actually teared up when I saw Amy’s pics and read her comment about Bette being the nicest piece of jewelry she owns. Chels couldn’t have been more delighted.

“Aw, so nice. Love those pics! She looks so lovely and kind.”

And yes, that’s it exactly. Amy is so lovely and kind and I am honored to now count her as one of my friends. Thank you, Chelsea, for enabling that to happen. Had you not created JJ, well … It’s quite extraordinary, really.

Thank you, Amy for agreeing to the posting of the photos and the comments. They’re golden. May your Bette bring you all good energy, joy and sparkle for years and years to come. I also thank the several other online pals who’ve taken advantage of the Just TypiKel promotion. Welcome to the world of Jubilee Jones, guys.

But enough about me. What do folks in the trade think of Jubilee Jones?  Well have a gander at who made it into Accessories Magazine’s Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2018. Congrats Jubilee Jones!

There’s still time for you and your mom (or sister, friend, daughter … ) to be blessed with a Jubilee Jones gem of your very own at a special rate. Today is the very last day to take advantage of the special Just TypiKel offer. The original line disappears tomorrow to be replaced by a new collection.

  1. I think you are a natural salesperson, Kel. Must be all those years hawking Asian antiques, no?!

Jubilee Jones designs are so pretty.

    1. Ha! Oh, I do wish that I was better at it, Katy. And yes, the JJ designs are really pretty, eh? You should also see her packaging. Incredible.

  2. I am totally jealous for a number of reasons, first the thought of being a published author; next, a very talented family (you the author, your mom the artist, and your niece the designer), and finally I would have loved to attend the Erma Bombeck writer’s workshop. I remember Erma wrote an essay about the birth of her children… she wrote about knowing the exact date, minute, second, & the aroma in the room when her first child was born and by the time the last one came along, she could only remember that it was the year the hardware store opened in town. She was quite the humorist.

    1. What a lovely comment, thank you! I really enjoyed the Erma conference this year. It’s my second time and I thought this one was much better. I’m not sure if it’s because I knew what to expect or if the speakers were better. Love that story about the birth of Erma’s kids. Too funny! What’s cool is that her kids come to the conference (her daughter couldn’t this year due to illness) and speak. They are very different from each other and yet so respectful of their mom.

  3. Your niece is so talented, they are beautiful! They look stunning on your jacket ! However, there is something wonderful about her early earring designs, however !!

    1. Yes, Jane, those early earring designs were stunners. I think she liked the longer ones best as they graced her shoulders. Remind me to tell you about the time she turned up in the crinoline my mother bought her. She wore it as a “party dress…”

  4. Those are just BEAUTIFUL!! I need to go back to your previous post to look some more. WOW. I just love how they look and I especially love your love and support for Chelsea and her obvious gift for creating such beautiful things. Those pics of her as a child are so telling, and SO adorable!

And I agree with Katy up there… You really are quite the salesperson! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Chris! The Jubilee Jones pieces are really stunning. And very easy to promote, I must say!

  5. I wish Chelsea continued success with her accessory line – her website is beautiful! Creative talent seems to run in the family 🙂

    1. Good heavens – I am so sorry to be so long in responding. Thank you for checking out Jubilee Jones, Dana.
