Today I’m participating in the Finish The Sentence Friday extravaganza hosted by Kate’s Can I Get Another Bottle of Wine, Janine’s Confessions of a Mommyaholic, Stephanie’s Mommy for Real and Kristi’s Finding Ninee.
The sentence completion choices this week are: “This holiday season I will … ” OR “My favourite Christmas tradition is …”
To maintain my personal sanity I have chosen to go with the “this holiday season” option. I simply cannot write another word about my favourite Christmas tradition. My blogging pal Mo of Mocadeaux and I have committed to writing 25 posts between us on that very topic in our Partners in a Pair Tree – Kelly and Mo Celebrate December.
Apologies for the shameless
As of today, we are over half way through.
With this holiday season promising to be a bit more special as I’ll have both my children back home, it has been an interesting time. I set myself a goal of completing all the posts before they get back. Frankly the concept of writing yet another is beyond the pale for me. But more important, I suspect folks don’t need yet another McKenzie tradition in their inbox!
So this holiday season I plan on pushing the “publish” button on my hopefully prewritten posts and simply spend the days hanging about with my kids, soaking up their presence and learning the bits of their new lives that they are willing to share.
The rest of the time I’ll be doing this.
Care to join me?
How do you plan to spend this holiday season? I’m curious. I’d also be delighted to learn about YOUR Christmas traditions. If you’d care to share, I’d love to hear.
Janine Huldie says
Totally joining you Kelly, as my two girls have off for 2 straight weeks from pre-school and have been working overtime to pre-schedule posts and also think I may rerun a few of my favorites from this past year (like a best of). So, here is to a wonderful Christmas and relaxing time, as well!! 🙂
Stephanie says
I will totally join you! 😉 I could use a break from the spinning-my-wheels holiday frenzy. These two weeks are so busy for our family- I lead 4 (4!) holiday singalongs with kids, we have parties, dance recitals… I would totally sit down with a cigar and relax. OK, maybe not a cigar. A cocktail? Merry Christmas- good luck with your posts!
Jane says
Love to join you Kelly ! The picture says it all !
Kelly says
Hahaha! I’ll supply the cigars.
The Dose of Reality says
I was just thinking how burned out I am feeling. Lucy was home sick from school earlier this week. She’s better now, but is dancing in The Nutcracker this weekend. She has a dress rehearsal tonight that will take hours and then we’ll be full up busy with the show the entire weekend. I have so much to do with holiday prep, I am feeling pulled beyond my comfort. I need to just take a deep breath and join you!
I hope you have a wonderful time catching up with, and learning all the details of what’s been going on with your favorite people now that they’re home!! –Lisa
Kelly says
Hope Lucy and everyone else in the family stays well. We probably need good health more than anything for the holiday season!
Susan Michael Barrett says
I am up for whatever traditions you’re willing to share.
And I so get the weariness of a blog post everyday (though that tree is starting to look pretty fabulous).
AND, thanks for that picture of you (ha!) on the window sill. I see the cigar–where’s your brandy?
Kiss each precious moment with those kids and then head back to the writing desk to remember it all with us.
Kelly says
Just waiting for you to bring the brandy Susan!
Kristi Campbell says
HA! That picture is priceless! I’ll totally join you. We are going to see my family. Wonderful, and hard, too… One of these days, I hope to schedule posts rather than always eeking them out at the last minute. I finished my FTSF post 2 minutes after we went live. Happy holidays!
Kelly says
Yes – I’ll be waiting for you. Cigar in hand. Off to read that post of yours!
Lisa Forever Five Blog says
Kelly, every time I visit your blog, you give me a laugh, a vision, a story. Thank you! In all seriousness, when you have a photo like that, you really don’t have to write a thing. I could look at that picture all day and laugh!
Kelly says
Thanks Lisa! You are more than welcome to come on over. Of course I’ll supply the cigars and others are now bringing cookies, cake and brandy …
Christina says
THAT GINGERBREAD MANSION IS AMAZING!!! I also like to have someone take over the reigns and experience childhood, because I get to breathe and remember why I love them so much. (wink). I truly like to make gingerbread from scratch. The kits always taste stale to me.
Kelly says
Ish’t it amazing? It was entered into a gingerbread contest held by a hotel a few years back. I just loved it. Right down to the wreath on the door. So great that you make your own houses. Love to see a pic.
Sarah says
Good for you! And I hope you enjoy that cigar!
Kelly says
Hahahaha! I choke when I’m around cigarette smoke so it would be interesting …
Lizzy - Muddle-Headed Mamma says
hehe great idea – would love to join you! I envy you being so organised and pre-scheduling your posts. If I ever got as organised as that, I would be so proud of myself 🙂 Wishing you a super relaxing Christmas with your kids at home and your sanity intact!
Kelly says
Hahahaha! – Key words “sanity intact.” Will keep you posted.
Considerer says
YES! Because as much fun as self-set challenges can be, there are definitely times for hitting publish, closing down and immersing in Real Life. I hope it’s a beautiful time for you 🙂
Kelly says
Thank you! Wishing the very same for you. Real Life here we come.
Katia says
That photograph is hilarious and very much the opposite of how I imagine elegant Kelly. 🙂 So exciting to have both kids back and totally merits some pre-written posts and you know what? I wouldn’t worry too much if you didn’t have all of them lined up. I doubt there will be too much going on in terms of blog reading, writing, sharing and commenting during the holidays. Have a wonderful Christmas! 🙂
Kelly says
Funny – not how you imagine “elegant Kelly.” My mom phoned me the minute she saw this post and left a message asking where’d I’d gotten the pic. So perhaps it’s not really a self portrait. Don’t tell anyone – just between you and me – I nabbed it from my son’s gr. 10 homework that is still on this computer … ssshhhhhh.
Jean says
I like to spend my Christmas lounging in a doorway in blue pants while smoking a pipe, but basically the same thing 🙂
Kelly says
Excellent. Yes – basically the same thing indeed. Have you a favourite colour for your hair bow?
