Psssst. We’ve got big family news. He’s almost 21 and she’s nearly 94. On the same day! Yes, two of my favourite people – my son and my mom – share the same birthday. And we are just days away from the big day.
Celebrations, at least on Francine’s part, have been full on. I’ve attended three parties in her honour and we’ve yet to have the family party.
As for my son, he’ll be celebrating across the country at university. Naturally, I’ll get an edited version of his
wild never-ending celebrations party.
How did this wonder of a shared birthday come about? Was it sheer luck or something more? Well, I like to think a lawnmower and my late husband are to blame for this superlative feat.
Family News. He’s Almost 21 and She’s Nearly 94
A lawnmower and my late husband? Yup. Three weeks prior to my due date of our second child, darling hubby announced breezily that he’d mow the lawn when he got home from work. Excuse me? Mowing the lawn was my department. I always mowed it. Did the man suddenly think I was an invalid just because I was the size of a house? Silly fool.
Of course, I got out the push mower and shoved it around both the front and back lawns later than morning. Easy peasy. All was well until later that night when I went into labour. Whoopsies. I’ll fast forward through all the birthing details to the moment when my mom was phoned on her birthday and learned she was about to get the best birthday gift of all: Another grandchild!
Frankly, I can’t believe this mischievous lad is about to turn 21.
Surely it was just yesterday that he shared certain family secrets at preschool and just a few months ago, when in response to my “Who made you SO cute?” he replied “Daddy and Sherman.”
No, Sherman was not “Mommy’s Special Friend.” He was the lovely neighbours’ pup.
So what is it that they most share in common? I’m thinking Birthday Boy got Sherman’s teeth … Or maybe the ears. You?
Soon To Be 21 uttered this at about the same age as Mom’s great-grandchild is now.
Here we have the birthday girl sharing her love of painting with that great-grandchild.
So do the birthday kids share some common quirks
other than both adoring me ?
You bet. Both are voracious readers, possess a wicked sense of humour, are gifted with the ability to write and perhaps most telling of all, both have a penchant for colourful shoes.
Bonus points for those of you who can tell me which picture is attributed to my son and which to my mom.
Before I give your eyes a rest, I invite you to enjoy a floral bouquet in honour of these two special people.
Stunningly beautiful, no? And, I’m pleased to report, beyond delicious. Yes! They are a cupcake wonder that a pal brought to the recent neighbourhood dog walkers’ birthday party. Several of the lovely members of that group are readers of Just TypiKel, and bless them, asked to meet Francine! She was delighted to attend and enjoyed her own floral cupcake.
Enough about the family news. He’s almost 21 and she’s nearly 94. I’m curious about you. Do you have family members or pals or even nemeses that share the same birthday? If you’d care to share, I’d love to hear.
And by the by … you’ll find my previous birthday post of his 18th and her 91st here.
The happiest of birthdays to you, H and you, Francine. May you have many, many more. Love you both to the moon and back.
